A few pictures I took a while back with a disposable camera. The girl in them is my little sister, who I coerced into traipsing up to the back of the new estate with me, carrying a quilt, which got us numerous odd looks.

I quite like how they turned out, I definitely prefer film/disposable cameras over digital, despite the fact that they're more time consuming.

So recently my school's started to organise our deb (or more formally, our "presentation ball"), something that's offered to Year Eleven every year. I'm not quite sure how to explain it...basically it involves all the girls getting dressed up in pretty white dresses and the boys wearing suits, a bit of ballroom type dancing and dinner. And then more dancing. It is most definitely not the whole girls getting presented to "eligible bachelors" event that it used to be. It's just a lot of fun and well, a chance to look nice.

What this means is that as of late I've been spending a fair bit of time making my way through websites and websites of lovely dresses, that are in most cases, a bit too expensive for my casual after school job to afford.

Here are a couple I've been swooning over lately - dresses from Papilio's The Nymph collection. Fingers crossed I find something similar that's a little less exxy, and little more located in Australia, not Belarus...

So I'm back (hopefully).

Well...hello.
I think it has to have been almost a year since I've posted on here, which is a tad bad. No, not just a tad. A lot bad. Excuse the poor grammar. Getting caught up in school (aka too many assessments) and work and other numerous things that make up my life has led me to neglect something I really enjoy doing.

So, I'm back. And I think I'll be staying for quite a while yet.

P.S. I will be sure to post something of interest later. I've got quite a few ideas for this little blog now :).

Keep Calm and Carry On

I'm always seeing this phrase all over the internet - on posters, books, t-shirts. But I never knew what the story was behind it. It was only when I stumbled across this website that I found out. This is going to be a bit text heavy, but I urge you to persist, it's just so interesting if you're a bit history obsessed like me. Haha.

Turns out that it's actually related to World War II. The Ministry of Information was formed by the British government in WWII, and was the department responsible for publicity and propaganda. After the outbreak of the war, the Ministry of Information produced a number of posters that were designed to boost morale. The first two posters featured King George VI's crown and featured the phrases 'Your Courage, Your Cheerfulness, Your Resolution will Bring Us Victory' and 'Freedom is in Peril'. They were displayed all over Britain.

'Keep Calm and Carry On' was the third poster, and it was planned to be put up once Germany invaded Britain. Since this didn't happen, it was never displayed publically. All the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' posters were believed to be destroyed at the end of the war, but 60 years later a bookseller discovered a poster in a pile of old books (I love when things like this happen!) he'd purchased from an auction. There are also a few displayed in British museums. And since copyright on works created by the British government expires after 50 years, the poster is has been reprinted and inspired all sorts of products.

I think I'm going to have to buy a poster now, cause of the history behind it as well as the fact that I really like the phrase. Have a look over here, it's a site that sells all sorts of Keep Calm and Carry on products, t-shirts, books, posters...even chocolate bars. It sells pretty much everything actually :).

I've been wanting to attempt this cake for a while now, and my friend's birthday was yesterday, so...I made her a cake :). I was a bit worried about how it was going to turn out, since I'm not exactly known for my baking skills, but it actually looked and tasted pretty good!

If you have time you should definitely try it out, cause the end result is pretty cool!

Here's the recipe I used, which I found along with the video over at Whisk - Kid. Things in italics are what I've written.

White Cake
2 sticks (226 g) butter, room temp
2 1/3 cups sugar
5 egg whites, room temp
2 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 1/2 cups (355 g) milk, warmed for 30 sec in microwave to bring to room temp
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple GEL food coloring. Liquid will not be vibrant enough! I actually just used normal liquid food colouring, and it still turned out really well, so don't fret if you don't have gel food colouring.

Preheat the oven to 350F degrees. Oil and line how ever many 9” cake pans you have (I have three and I just reused them).

Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

Cream the sugar and butter, then add the egg whites (I cracked them all into one bowl) and add them a little at a time. Add the vanilla and mix until fully incorporated. Then, alternating between wet and dry, add the milk and flour mixture in two parts.

Divide the batter amongst 6 bowls (I did it by weight. Weigh your mixing bowl before you begin adding ingredients and then subtract the weight of the bowl from the final measurement after the batter is completed. Divide that number by six and add that weight of batter to each bowl), and then whisk a fair amount of the appropriate food color into each bowl. Pour into the pans and bake for 15 minutes each.

When you remove them from the oven, let them rest on the cooling rack, in the pan, for ten minutes. Then flip, cover, and stash them in the fridge to cool quickly.

Lemony Swiss Meringue Buttercream
You're meant to use this to fill the spaces between each of the six cakes and to frost with. I didn't use it at all though, I just 'stuck' the cakes together using whipped cream, and frosted with ordinary icing. Still, I thought you might like to try it :).
I made this recipe twice today because I underestimated the amount of buttercream I would need/ I would recommend that you do the same because you would need a HUGE bowl to make this much buttercream at one time!

To fill and crumb coat:
9 egg whites
1 ¾ c (350 g) sugar
4 sticks (532 g) of butter, room temp
2 tsp lemon extract

To frost:
5 egg whites
1 c (200 g) sugar
2 sticks (226 g) butter, room temp
1 tsp lemon extract

Cook the egg whites and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved (test by rubbing some between your fingers. If it's completely smooth, it's done). Pour into another bowl (a stand mixer is preferable) and whip on high speed until room temp. Then, on a medium-slow speed, add the butter, waiting until each piece is completely incorporated before adding the next. After all the butter has been added, turn the mixer back to high speed and whip until it has come together, about five minutes. Add the extract, beat briefly and then use.

If the buttercream seems soupy after all of the butter is added and does not come together after whipping, refrigerate for 5 to 7 minutes and continue whipping until it becomes fluffy and workable.

All I feel like doing at the moment is snuggling down under a doona with a nice cup of hot chocolate or tea. And then spend the next few hours reading and looking at pretty pictures on my favourite Tumblrs. Sadly I am at school at the moment, and when I get home I will have to do my English assignment. I cannot wait for the weekend. I do have a Geography test to study for, but I'm planning to do that with my friend, so it's ok, cause I love our little 'study sessions'.

How cute are these fox pillows by Elsie? I found them over at What Anna Loves, and now I'm inspired to make some cushions, pillows, whatever, of my own. I'm just not sure where to begin. Instead today I went hunting for white tights (unsuccesfully) then came home and read. I'm in a very lazy mood, I'm very grateful for the three day weekend, I will be needing it for homework!

How to make bunting

The other day, my friend and I decided to make bunting for our rooms. After a bit of googling, we proceeded to follow the instructions that were on someone's website, but since they weren't really working out for us, we decided to just see how we went by ourselves. And this is how we did it, pretty simple really..

You will need:

Material - You can have as many or as little different types as you want. It depends if you want to follow a pattern (e.g. blue, green, yellow, pink, blue, green, yellow, pink..) or if you want to have a different type for each triange.
Ribbon or twill tape (I used two metres and it fit 15 triangles, also make sure it's thick as it just makes it easier).
Cardboard (template).
Scissors
Pins
A pen
And finally you will need a sewing machine.

Step One: Make a triangle template using cardboard. It can be as big or as small as you want.

Step Two: Place your template onto your material and trace around it. Now you can cut it out. Repeat this on all the different materials you're using.

Step Three: Fold the twill tape/ribbon in half and iron along it so it stays like that.

Step Four: Lay out the tape/ribbon and arrange the triangles to your liking. Make sure they're nice and secure between the fold of the tape/ribbon, and then pin them into place.

Step Five: Sew along the bottom of the twill tape/ribbon, close to where it meets the triangles. You can tuck in the ends of the tape/ribbon to make it more neat.

Step Six: Now that it's all sewn, you can iron it, just to get rid of all the creases and other little annoying bits.

And you're done! :).

I love holidays.

Last night I watched The Time Traveller's Wife. It was a good movie but I cried a fair bit. Today I slept in, watched a movie about WWII, took the polaroid that's above (a rarity, since the film is so expensive), added to my 'holiday list' and just went about my house being lazy.

I think my weekend will be much the same as today, which I'm happy about, I've been wanting a relaxed few days for a while now.

Ok, so I'm back. Sorry about the lack of posts for the past two weeks. I've pretty much not been anywhere near the blog world for that time, so I have a fair bit of catching up to do! There's just been...a lot of things that have happened in the past two weeks that have distracted me, but I think I'll be back to more consistent blogging from now on :).

Anyhow, Kate Wilson is one of the artists I've liked for a while now. All her illustrations are very cute and fun.

Whether it be the clasp of a quirky handbag being sported by a fashionista on the streets to the perfect cupcake in a patisserie window, the little details that often pass people by play the biggest influence on Kate's work.

Who knows about your blog?

I was having a conversation with two of my friends the other day about blogging. One of my friends (Emma) was saying that me and my other friend (Blair) should really start a blog, cause she really likes doing it etc. Little does she know that Blair and I already have been blogging for quite some time. So there we were, walking along, Blair and I glancing at each other now and again and laughing. We thought it was pretty funny.

But, it did get me thinking. Only my family knows about my blog. Not one of my friends, aside from Blair, know about my blog. She knows because, I don't know, we both started off doing blogs/sites at around the same time a few years ago, and I trust her not to tell anyone about my blog.

I don't think I tell anyone about my blog because it's just an opportunity for me to write and talk about the things I like, knowing that there won't be some kid from my school laughing at it and judging me. Unfortunately, that is what a lot of the people at my school are like. You go to school and they'll all be talking about what someone posted on formspring or Myspace. When people post links to their blogs, and then get negative comments about it or on it, I really feel sorry for them.

I just like having this blog as a seperate part of my life...does that make sense? I love doing it, and I don't want anything to happen that would make me want to stop. And I really value all you lovely readers of mine!

What I would like to know, is who knows about your blog? Do you like to tell everyone about it or prefer to keep it to yourself? I'd love to know what you all do :).

I was meant to go op shopping today with my friend, but annoyingly I was sick. So instead I spent the day reading books and Frankie, and then I decided to go out and hire Phoebe in Wonderland, which I first discovered on Sophie's blog.

The whimsical tale of a young girl who struggles to follow the rules. Perplexed by her inability to get along with the rule-obsessed world around her, Phoebe seeks enlightenment and comfort from her unconventional drama teacher. Phoebe in Wonderland explores a young girls self-discovery and her journey to find acceptance.

It was a pretty serious movie, and quite sad at times, but I really enjoyed it. And Elle Fanning is an amazing actress.

Make an effort to see it sometime, it's definitely worth watching.

I went to my cousin's 21st on the weekend, he lives in Melbourne but he had it in the town where my Mum and her sister (his mum) grew up, cause that's where most of his family is.

While we were there we drove to the house where Mum grew up. It's gorgeous. I wish it hadn't been sold. We don't actually have any photos of it so I decided to take some. I knocked on the door, no one was home, so hoping a car wouldn't just suddenly pull up in the driveway, I took some photos. I'm not an amazing photographer but I think you get the whole feel of the house :).

I'm in love with the fact it has a lampost and an actual attic (it's connected to the little balcony)! I've always wished to have an attic.

Hello there. I've been feeling really behind on blogging lately. I'm not sure why, I havn't been particularly busy. Maybe I'm still getting used to school going back. I got up this morning and decided it really was time for a blog post again :).

I was looking through a bunch of old books (they're abundant in my house) a few days ago when I found one that really interested me.

Every single blank page in this book is filled with a drawing, random writing or something else, all by (from what I can tell) lots of different people. The other pages are full of beautiful words and pictures. I just love imagining all the people who've owned this book over the past eighty years.

Old but lovely

I've always wanted to collect something. The closest I've got to collecting something was having a book of stamps when I was about 10, but that book is long gone, most likely buried under piles and piles of barbie dolls.
I was in the op shop the other day (looking for frames) when I found this lovely little thing.

A bit battered definitely, but I love it none the less. It was pretty cheap too.
It was when I came home and sat it next to my great - grandfather's camera and my polaroid...

that I decided I am going to collect old cameras :).

Holidays are coming to an end

Since tomorrow is the last day of holidays for me (unfortunately), I thought I'd share with you some bits and pieces from the past few weeks...

The beach I spent a week at. It was beautiful.

A bunch of paper boats my friend and I made. We went to her dam, hoping to see them float, only to find there was no water!

This is at my aunt's place. She has an amazing garden, and despite the fact that this little feature was small, it was one of my favourite parts. You're meant to put candles in it but I think it looks like a birdcage.

And finally here is the little place where we brought cherries from when we were travelling to the coast. It's handmade signs and cute little verandah put a smile on my face. The man who sold us the cherries had an Italian accent and told us his cherries were 'good enough for the kings'.

All in all,
a pretty good holiday :).

A question for you...

I'm always doing something to my room. There's always a bit, that in my eyes, needs to be fixed or adjusted. At the moment, it's my group of frames. They all sit in the middle of the wall, and I've gotten a bit sick of them. So I took some down, put new ones up (thanks Nan and op shop), and moved them all over to the side of my wall. I quite like how they look now. But a few of them are still empty. And I don't know what to put in them.

So here is my question for you, dear readers. What do you put in your frames? I know the obvious answer is pictures, but there are tons of possibilites. Embroidery, postcards, quotes, polaroids, photos, prints, letters. Let me know, post some pictures if you like, give me some ideas :).

One day we will lose our teeth

Yesterday morning my 3 year old cousin and I had a conversation about how one day we will lose our teeth, and then we will only be able to drink lots and lots of milk. She is very sweet. So is her brother. We're home from my Nan and Pop's today, I kinda wish I was still there...it's just nice being there.

I'm back. The computer's fixed...well enough so I can go on the internet anyway.
I've had a good couple of days lately. I went to a friend's house yesterday and we mucked around, took photos, made pirate hats and paper boats. And today I went down to the river. I've never been much of a 'river person', I usually spend all summer at the pool. But it's actually really nice there, I think I'll be spending a few more summer days floating along in the water. Also today I put the t - shirt from this post on layby.

And my Polaroid Spirit 600 arrived in the mail yesterday!

As you all know, the film is very expensive at the moment. I took one photo (only slightly planned) to check if the camera worked. It did. I left it, and when I returned, I was not happy to see that the little number on the camera had flicked down to 8. A quick check of my sister's room solved this puzzle. She'd taken a photo of herself! Note to Alana: This is not the way to please your sister.

Market Finds - Lally

While we were on holidays, we went to markets along the beach. I was pretty happy with my purchases.

Simple little things - a pet rock, hair pins and a ring.

My favourite was the ring, hands down. It's actually made out of a key from a broken typewriter. I found it at a store filled with wonderful jewellery, all made out of recycled materials. But not the junky stuff. Instead everything was made from spoons, knives, forks, scrabble pieces, antique buttons. I fell in love with pretty much everything in that shop. As I left the guy handed me a card, it said Lally : Jewellery Redefined. Perfect slogan, don't you think?

They describe what they do as making beautiful jewellery from antique and vintage items, I think you should definitely head over to their website and check it out.

I'm back. How are all you lovely bloggers? Thankyou for all your comments while I was gone. I hope you had a lovely Christmas, what did you get? I was very happy with all my presents, surprised at a few. I had a really nice time at the coast, just relaxing and eating ice - cream everday. What am I going to do without you now Baskin and Robbins?

I have a few photos to share with you, and some new discoveries, but for now I'm going to leave you with some questions. It'll help me get to know you all better. Everyone seems to be doing them lately. I was going to think of my own questions but the ones Much Love posted, pretty much summed up what I wanted to say. She said you could answer them on your own blog. So that's what I'm going to do.
Only I want you to answer them as well!

One thing that you loved in 2009?
Going to the coast and eating ice-cream and swimming everyday. Oh, and starting blogging!

Being on holidays. It's lovely. No school, I can just relax and do whatever.

I'm starting to get more interested in photography, so I'd like to explore that a bit more. I've got heaps of ideas for photos in my head, it's just that my annoying old digital camera just doesn't like me. I think I'll have to steal Dad's...I'd also like to take up piano again.

Christmas is ever so soon. Exactly a week from today in fact!I've been getting into the Christmas spirit lately, I spent yesterday wrapping presents whilst listening to Florence the Machine. Then I made a card for my Nan and Pop, and then spent the afternoon last minute Christmas present hunting (yay for late night shopping!). I also must admit I love watching the corny Christmas movies that are always on.. e.g. The Santa Clause 1,2 & 3.

Lately there have been a fair few posts floating around about Christmas obviously. Heaps of people seem to be looking forward to the 'white Christmas'. I love snow, but I just can't see how Christmas would be complete without the hot summery weather and swimming. Maybe it depends on what you're used to. Which do you prefer?

Tomorrow I am off to the coast for a week! I'm so excited I'm even looking forward to the car trip, which is two days long. I'm looking forward to being with some of my family on Christmas Day, even if it's not the usual big Christmas Day at my Nan and Pop's. But I think mainly I can't wait for the chance to relax for a week, with nothing to bother me. I won't be back till about a week from Monday, and unless I can somehow get onto the Internet, this is my last post for a while. Also I think I've broken the record for how many times you can say the word 'Christmas' in one blog post.

Anyway, Merry Christmas! Have a magical and fun day, full of laughs and love...and presents ;). I hope Santa is good to you, and looking forward to hearing from you all when I get back!

Usually my friends and I go for the whole 'movies and nachoes' night. This time we decided we'd be a bit more creative, and cook something. We ended up deciding on biscuits...
When they were all cooked and iced, we said we may as well have a tea party! And so we did.
We then spent the rest of the night talking and looking at the stars. Pretty good weekend :).

If you're wondering about the 'EG', it is the result of left over dough, that my friend flattened into an egg shape. She tried to write 'EGG' on it, but as you can see, she failed...

Summer List: Part Two

Part two of my things to do this summer list, just cause I love lists. Some of the things aren't really particular to summer, but I'm pretty sure I shouldn't get too bored these holidays now.

1. Make some pretty cookies/cupcakes. I'm inspired by the photo in the last post.
2. Have an Aaron Johnson movie marathon. Loveeee Aaron Johnson.
3. Find a four leaf clover.
4. I really would love to take one photo each day of summer, with a polaroid. Problem is, I don't have a Polaroid, and even if I get one for Christmas, the film is pretty expensive! Maybe next summer. I really want to do it though.
5. Build a sand castle. Havn't done that for ages. I'm so happy we're off to the beach for Christmas! :).
6. Yet another thing I havn't done for a while. I'm determined to fly a kite. I don't think I have mine anymore though. It used to be so cute, complete with little bows along the tail (is it called a tail?). Where exactly do you buy kites anyway? Havn't seen them anywhere...
7. Camp out in my back yard, or my friend's. Doing this in summer is perfect. It doesn't get too cold and you can lie outside and watch the stars.
8. Swim at night.
9. Get a penpal. Somehow. I had one when I was about 11 or 12 and I loved getting the letters in the mail. I've had no luck finding a decent, reliable way to get one though. Can anyone help?
10. Collect seashells and draw in the sand. The end! For now...

Just a quick post. My school has roped me into debating tomorrow. Tomorrow, and they only got a team together today. How organised! Haha. I do actually love debating, but I am not in the mood to write 2 four minute speeches in one night. Especially when I have to go to my sister's presentation night as well.
Anyhow, there's no getting out of it. I just can't wait till the term's over. Only 7 more school days! For now I thought I'd leave you with this cute little quote/embroidery. I can think of so many books that it applies to.

Where The Wild Things Are

I've always loved the book Where The Wild Things are, so I got pretty excited when I heard that there was a movie coming out. I'm sure most of you were, since there's been a lot of talk about it in the blogging world.

Finally it came out, and my friend and I went and saw it last night. Wow. It was amazing. I don't even know how to begin to explain it. It had a great soundtrack, it was funny and sad, whimsical. The list goes on. The costumes in particular I loved. The monsters weren't animated, but instead huge costumes were made that were operated from the inside. Only the faces were animated by using CGI.

There are two quotes I remember from the movie.
"I think we broke the king."
"He does have a double recracker."

My friend and I burst out laughing at them while the rest of the cinema was completely silent. Sorry about that.

If only you could really jump into a tiny boat and sail away to an mystical land...

With these awards also comes a challenge. I had to find seven things in my room that were a particular colour, that being...
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

So here are my seven things!

Little wooden figurines. They're all dressed in blue except the little girl.

A paper crane I made. But I can't remember how to make them anymore sadly.

Good old Eeyore. Everyone one has a old, beloved toy like this, right?

Box that used to hold a teacup and saucer.

Sunglasses I brought today! The blue fades into white, then goes blue again. They remind me of summer and the beach :).

Notepad I got from my Nan and Pop a few Christmases ago. Havn't found a use for it yet. I have so many blank notebooks.

I also have to pass the awards on to seven more blogs. You all get the two awards! The two came with the option to name 7 random facts about yourself, and 7 things you're loving at the moment. Plus the '7 things in your room' challenge. You can do any, or all.

But I would say you should definitely do the 7 things in your room challenge. But you're not going to have to find seven blue things, I have to change the colour, and that colour will be...pink. Just cause everyone I know seems to have a fair bit of pink in their rooms.

Summer List.

It's only two and a half weeks till summer holidays 'officially' start here. Six lovely weeks. One of which will be spent at the coast, staying right across the road from the beach! So, here is my list of what I want to get done in the summer holidays. Sorry, I can't help it. I'm addicted to list- making.

1. Spend as long as I want reading at the beach.
2. Learn how to cartwheel. I have spent too long doing pathetic half handstands before falling onto the ground.
3. Have a picnic in the gardens. If I can't get anyone to join me, I'll do it à la Teddy Bear's Picnic.
4. Fill another tile. Ok, that doesn't really make sense. Everytime we go to the local pool, my friend and I fill up a tile on the bottom of the pool. We write or draw something by scratching it into the tile with a bobby pin. And it stays there, year after year. We don't go too much together, I think we've filled about four tiles so far.
5. Get up early in the morning, sneak out, walk down to the beach and watch the sunrise.
6. Go swimming at the beach every morning.
7. Make icy poles.
8. Have a water fight.
9. Write more of my book/story/novel/whatever it is.
10. And I know I won't do it, but how sweet would it be to have a lemonade stall like in all the movies?

Strange strange strange

I'm home, on a Friday afternoon. It feels very strange. You see, I've been doing drama every single Friday all year. Lately I've been doing it at least three times a week, in preparation for the massive anniversary/end of year concert, which was on Wednesday night. Everyone in my group started to feel like family, I saw them so much! The concert was so much fun. But now it's over, there are of course no more practices. I feel funny. But I'm seeing all the drama kids next week for dinner, so I am looking forward to that!

Lately I've been in love with the whole embroidered doilies thing. I think I might attempt one myself. It's the perfect way to display your favourite quotes I think :).

Juliette over at where the wild wolves dream just did a post where she had to say ten things about herself. She's passed it on to everyone who reads her blog, so I thought I would do it...

1. I can never not have a book to read. Does that make sense? It doesn't mean I have to be constantly reading. It just means that if someone asked me what I was currently reading, I would always be able to answer. I would never say "Oh, nothing at the moment." Bit of a book worm I am!

2. I cannot bear touching peach skin, wooden spoons or flour. I don't know why!

3. I love writing. I've only realised just how much I do it. I write in my journal, on here, stories at school. I'm writing a story at the moment, it's going to be fairly long I think. I'm on about 14 000 words at the moment. I want to get a book published someday.

4. When I was about two I could fit into my dad's briefcase. Which makes me think, why did he have a briefcase? He's a biologist, and he spends most of his days off in the bush somewhere. Anyway, I still am very short and I'm often mistaken to be younger than my age. Which I don't like now but I guess will be better when I'm older.

5. I have always wanted curly hair. I have straight hair, which tends to have annoying flicky bits, and I envy people with gorgeous curly locks. Yet most of them seem to hate it!

6. I can never get enough of old photos. They fascinate me.

7. The Holocaust intrigues me. It's so interesting. So very sad, but very interesting. I read every book I can find on the subject. I particularly like ones from young people's point of view. Maybe one day I will go visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, where all those terrible things happened.

8. I adore pretty dresses.

9. I'm a list-maker. I love making lists. About everything and anything. I make lists when for Christmas, for my birthday, when I go away somewhere I make lists of what I have to pack. I make lists each year when we go to Rock Eisteddfod. I make lists of things I want, songs I should get. Things I have to do. The list just goes on (haha).

10. Our school has participated in Rock Eisteddfod for many years. I absolutely love it. I love practicing, I spend all year looking forward to leaving our little town (well, it's not that little) at 6am to travel into the city, and not getting home till about 4 am the next morning. I love the whole atmosphere.

Got quite bored today, after studying, so I'm doing a second post! I was mucking around with the camera and I thought I'd share with you some bits and pieces from my room :).

This is my collection of frames. I want a few more up but I havn't found the right ones yet, plus I don't know what to put in them!
Top row, L - R: A picture cut from Frankie, Catherine Campbell 'Meet Me in The Middle' print, yet another picture from Frankie, an old ad for Velvet Soap.
Bottom row, L - R: There is a girl reading, and a girl writing, both in matching frames. These two are actually cards that I had for years before I framed them. Next along is a Brambly Hedge print. I used to love love love the tv show and the books when I was little, the books especially.
Finally there is a photo by gingerlillytea.

This is an inspiration board type thing. A while ago I saw something like this on someone's blog, and I loved the idea, so I used it! There's an old postcard on there, a card from my Nan and Pop, and other pretty things.

My bedside table that used to belong to my Grandma. It holds a few of the many books I have. You can see the Narnia series in the bottom left corner. I love those books.

I love old cameras. I was considering buying one off the internet when Mum produced this little gem. It was my great-grandfather's. The bird was found at I don't know where!

And to finish off, this is my old friend, Eeyore. He's been through a lot. I've had him since I was one or two. He's had a few haircuts and his tail was cut off by my sister. He's one of the things I will always treasure.

Kate Miller Heidke

I was listening to Kate Miller- Heidke this morning. I probably havn't listened to her for three weeks, and listening to her today made me remember just how much I love her! I've absolutely adored for about three years now. She's got an amazing voice and really unique lyrics.
Just in the past few months she's become really famous here in Australia, as in being in the Top 20 etc. Which is good, but it kind of isn't so good as well. I just think when everyone knows about something it's not as special anymore. Don't you agree? However everyone mainly only listens to her new stuff while I still have the secret little gem that is her older albums.

So today I thought I'd share with you a piece of the lovely Kate Miller - Heidke. This song is called Make It Last, it's from 2007. As well as loving the song I love the video clip, it's a garage sale type thing and involves people dancing with lamps, boys in pyjamas wearing cat ears and a goldfish. + I want her dress.

Well unfortunately I can't get the video on here cause of embedding disabled etc. So instead I will content myself with saying you must watch Make It Last here :).

Neat Freak

Does anyone else share my love of cleaning their room? I'm finding that most days lately I'll come home, have something to eat, read a bit, then go and clean my room. Make my bed, tidy up my desk, put things away. I don't know why it's so addicting. But I just love seeing and having everything so neat and tidy. I can't leave my room messy for more than a few days anymore. Which is funny, because not so long ago I was the proud owner of a floordrobe and my desk was completely buried under a massive pile of junk.
But it's only my room. It doesn't bother me if the rest 0f the place is a complete mess. I mean, you should see my bathroom. Ha.

The Uninvited

I was reading the latest post over at Vintage Frantic's blog, which was mainly about the outfits that Zooey Deschanel wore in 500 Days of Summer. It reminded me of how much I loved the outfits Emily Browning wore in The Uninvited, so her post has inspired me to write this one!

The Uninvited is a horror movie, I absolutely love everything about it. It has the best twist, and it's really cleverly done. The house where most of the movie happens is beautiful. The movie's about a girl who returns home after being hospitalised because of her mum's death, only to find she now has an 'evil step-mother', but I won't give away any more than that. I'll only say that you should get down to blockbuster and hire it!
Anyway, here are some of the outfits Emily Browning wore in the movie. I wish I could steal them.

There are many more pretty things that she wears (my favourite is the dress in the party scene) but I can't seem to find any images! I tried to take my own stills, with print screen, but they came out pretty blurry. Looks like you'll have to watch the movie yourself :).

So I finally have a decent layout that I actually like, it took me a while to find a template that I liked, and I couldn't really work out all the blogger codes. I used to be really into websites so I know the whole CSS and FTP, but it's not as much like that on here.

I was looking through my favourites today and I came across Ben Zen. He draws lots of quirky, intriguing characters, and usually posts a story along with each illustration, I love reading about the little characters he's created. Anyway, head on over to his blog sometime soon! You will easily get lost in all the wonderful drawings.

Had to blog again because the new issue of Frankie, aka best magazine ever, came out yesterday, and I just got mine a few hours ago :). I'm home sick from school today, so it's cheered me up a bit. This issue is full of wonderfulness (which is surprisingly actually a word) as per usual. My favourite part so far are the inspiration boards, which have inspired me to get cracking on mine!

Polaroid Love ♥

I have wanted a polaroid for quite some time now, I'm not sure what appeals to me most about them. I think it's mostly the look of how the photos come out. I've decided on getting a Spirit 600, so I'm just going to search ebay until I find one that I like. The only problem is film is quite expensive though, as they've stopped making it. Usually a pack of ten (enough to take ten photos,obviously) is about $30 - $50 from what I've seen on ebay, although I'm sure there are other places that you can buy it.

As I sit umming and ahhing over the price of film, I remember reading an article in Frankie a while ago. And that's when I remember The Impossible Project. The aim of the team at The Impossible Project is to re-start production of analog instant film for vintage Polaroid cameras in 2010. Recently it was announced that Polaroid would be supporting the project by relaunching some of the most famous Polaroid Instant Cameras.

So, the people at The Impossible Project, thank you!

In the meantime, for people without Polaroid cameras, who dearly wish they had one (i.e. me!) there is a software you can download from poladroid.net, where you can make your own polaroids, just drag and drop your picture onto the camera on the desktop. There are lots of other rad features too, so worth checking it out :).

It's very very rainy here today. It's the middle of spring, but I think somehow the weather is confused. Come on, sun! I can't wait for the days when I can wear dresses and high-waisted skirts again. I also really want some high-waisted shorts, but I cannot seem to find any! Looks like I may have to look to the internet for options...but it's not like they send it to you, you try it on, and if it doesn't fit, you can send it back.

The photos are by some of my favourite flickr photographers, the first two are by ginger lilly tea, and the last is by milly lilly rose, and they remind me of spring. Funny how they both have the word lilly. Maybe I have a thing for lilly's?

First post! After sifting through many, many beautiful and inspiring blogs, I decided to start one of my own. This way I can keep all the little bits and pieces that inspire me in one place. Quick introduction. My name's Katie, I'm still at school. I love writing, I want to have a book published someday. I also love love love reading, singing, art. Mostly all things quirky or unique I like. Think Frankie magazine. I could spend a whole day on my swing outside just daydreaming or drawing. I think that'll do for now!

On another note, I love Etsy. I could spend days looking at all the pretty things on there. A few weeks ago I found these delightful animals by skunkboycreatures.
