Jill Willcot

Pretty pretty photos by Jill Willcott. They have a lovely, soft, memory sorta feel to them, don't you think? I wonder if a disposable camera would produce photos like that. Maybe I will try it out sometime. Can you even buy disposable cameras anymore? I remember when they used to have heaps, all piled up on the shelves at the registers. But I don't think I've seen any for a while.

Do you have any ways you use to get photos like this?

  1. aren't dianas supposed to make pictures like that? or holgas? i think dianas more so.... but you can totally get disposable cameras still! so fun! if you have a grocery outlet around you, or a cheap grocery store, sometimes they have old disposable ones comparatively cheap ($3?) and they're super fun to carry around and take pictures. gosh, jill willcot is lovely. every picture. i want it on my wall.

  2. These are all lovely. I don't think the first photo would have quite the same effect if it didn't have the light leak. I've seen disposable cameras around, but they take up very little shelf space. I actually found an old disposable camera in my room the other day. It's about 2 years past its expiration date. I wonder if it's still ok to use? haha

I don't have any tips - with film I basically just point, wish for the best, and shoot :)

i think dianas/holgas and those platic toy cameras sort of give that effect. I think you can buy disposable cameras? Its priably the processing that will cost you alot though....
    Great photography :)

  4. You'll need any camera with a plastic lens to get that soft, dreamy effect - so all lomo cameras (diana, holga) or disposable. In england, we have £1 shops that sell them, and anywhere that develops photos will sell cheap ones
Or try editing your photos on picnik.com - cheat the effect! xx

  6. I've been meaning to buy a disposable camera for yonks, but I can only find them for around $25, so it's been on the backburner for a while. I'm not sure quite how to get photos like that, but my guess would be with a lomo camera. I'm sure there's some program on the internet that allows you to edit your photos like that... Somewhere.

  7. Hey!

First off, thank you so much for blogging my photos! Catherine (the blonde girl in basically all my photos came across this somehow and I thought it was really sweet).

Secondly, I use a Minolta XG-1 film camera, however, most film cameras give that "dreamy look" although the above cameras were right, holgas are great! Also, try Wal-Mart or your local drug store for disposable cameras. You can usually get them really cheap there! There's a few photos on my stream taken on disposables and I love them :)

    Thanks again,
    Jill Willcott
